The fourth-grade classroom was quiet after lessons. Morning rain had left puddles across the yard, and Neema sat at the last desk drawing with a pencil. When Amina opened the door, the child did not rise to embrace her. She kept drawing a gate with two names crossed out by a heavy line.
"What are you drawing?" Amina asked.
"The school. But no one knows whose name will remain."
Zawadi was collecting books near the window. Amina did not want to sit like an investigator in front of a child. She took a desk at a distance.
"What have you heard people say?"
Neema hid the pencil. "Uncle Baraka said you erased the school. My mother said not to pull me into your matters. But everyone is talking."
Amina felt the word *uncle* catch in her throat. "You do not have to know who is winning."
"Will you fire Baraka?"
"No. I cannot promise that out of anger."
Neema opened the paper. Beneath the gate she had written: *whose name protects the children?* Amina sat closer but did not touch the drawing.
"Did someone tell you to draw this?"
"I heard them say the new company will take the school. I was afraid you would close the gates."
Zawadi came nearer. "Baraka sent a message to the teachers this morning. He said children should not ask about Amina. One teacher kept it."
Zawadi showed the message with phone numbers covered: *The real school owner is the one who carries the keys, not the one who arrives with papers.*
Neema asked, "If he has keys, what do you have?"
"I have a lease, receipts, and a duty not to use children to prove an adult dispute."
"Can a receipt protect a child?"
"A receipt can show who paid a salary and who made a promise. A child is protected by adults who refuse to make the child a witness."
Neema lifted her face. "If you see my video, will it help?"
"No." Amina answered immediately. "Even if you wanted to speak, I will not put your video in a packet or livestream. This classroom is not a court."
"But it is not fair."
"We can seek the truth without placing you in the middle."
Zawadi suggested that rule be placed in the audit notice: no child named, no child's fee shown, no classroom photograph used without permission. Amina wrote it down.
Neema asked whether Amina would drive Baraka away. Amina refused to promise an angry ending. "A person can be held responsible without being erased as a person."
A teacher named Rehema came in to ask about the planned livestream. A parent wanted to interview teachers outside the gate. Amina told her not to answer on camera. If there was information, it should go through the notice process.
"What can I do?" Neema asked. "If I do not use the video, how do I help?"
"You help by studying, singing, and telling an adult when you are afraid. That is life, not membership evidence."
Amina showed her the drawing. "Who is protected by this box?"
"Children."
"Then here is our promise: no child's name will enter the packet."
Neema smiled a little. Before leaving, she coloured the two erased names. Amina did not call the drawing evidence for the company. She put it in the art folder and wrote a note that it could not be used as proof of membership.
Neema asked, "If you return Baraka, will he erase your name again?"
"That is why we are building a system in which one person cannot quietly erase another."
"And if the system is wrong?"
"Then many people will be able to ask questions."
Amina remained outside the classroom until Neema began her journey home. Zawadi wrote a note prohibiting the use of Neema's image. The decision weakened Amina's immediate case, but it protected the child and gave the final charter a rule that applied to every student.
Before she left, Neema handed Amina the drawing. Two names were crossed out, and beneath them stood a large box: *whose name protects the children?*
Amina left knowing that protecting a child might make her case slower, but it kept the school human. Zawadi wrote Neema's protection boundary into the notice for every child. # End of Chapter
